About Tummy Time Pregnancy Scan Studio in Somerset West
Founded in 2012 by Kirsten Kotze, Tummy Time has been sharing in the joy of parenthood for over a decade.
Kirsten completed her B-Tech Ultrasound accreditation at Groote Schuur Hospital in 2009 and brings over 15 years of experience in the ultrasound industry. What started with a passion for revealing baby’s gender has grown into a full-service fetal ultrasound practice.
“I wanted to share in the joy experienced when revealing Baby’s Gender. My vision is to assess baby for mom’s peace of mind and then enjoy absolutely everything in that moment.” — Kirsten Kotze, Founder
Over the years, Kirsten identified a growing demand for fetal anatomy ultrasounds and expanded the service offerings to include dating scans, NT scans, detailed anatomy assessments, and the signature 4D experience.

A 2D ultrasound provides a flat image. 3D shows a three-dimensional image. 4D ultrasound is a three-dimensional image with the added dimension of time — so you see a live, moving image of your baby.
The 4D Ultrasound Scan is the procedure of gathering 3-dimensional images and animating them into a movie to treasure forever. You can see baby’s face, eyes, yawns, smiles, finger curls, and toe wiggles. It’s a truly magical bonding experience.
Yes! Ultrasound is safe when used by a Skilled Sonographer or Doctor who has undergone training in Ultrasound and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable). It doesn’t use harmful ionizing radiation.
Your first ultrasound should be scheduled between 6 and 8 weeks to precisely locate and identify the developing embryo.
Detailed Anatomy scans are performed at 20–22 weeks and evaluate baby’s internal organs using 2D imaging. 4D baby scan uses 4D software to show baby’s face when baby has some cheeks to show off. The dedicated 4D scan focuses entirely on the 4D bonding experience.
For an optimal 4D scan, the best time to arrange a visit is between 28 and 32 weeks, though results may be good up to 35 weeks.
The amount of amniotic fluid, and tissue between the probe and baby determine the quality of the imaging. The most important factor in baby scanning is the baby’s position.
Your still images are sent within 2 working days. Your moments captured will be converted into a short clip and sent to you as soon as it is complete. Video files from the ultrasound unit are very big, and some may need extra time before they can be edited and sent along through WhatsApp. This can vary from 3 to 5 working days. The colour prints are given to you before you leave — you walk out with your precious memories in hand!
